Darwin To Adelaide And Ghan Expedition

Day 1: Arrive Darwin
Arrive at Darwin Airport and take your private transfer to Argus Hotel, where you will stay for the next three nights on a room-only basis. Enjoy some time at leisure to familiarise yourself with this easy-going city.

Days 2-3: Darwin
Enjoy two free days to explore the Northern Territory's unhurried capital. Darwin has lots to offer, from outdoor adventures and crocodile cruises to aboriginal art and buzzing markets. Perhaps book a crocodile cruise or visit the incredible Litchfield National Park for a day of exploring and swimming.

Day 4: Depart Darwin on board The Ghan
Step aboard the legendary Ghan this morning and acquaint yourself with the friendly staff and facilities on board before enjoying lunch in the classically-styled Queen Adelaide Restaurant. Relax in your cabin or mingle with fellow travellers in the Lounge car. Arrive in Katherine early afternoon and take a leisurely cruise on the Katherine River or gain an insight into the traditional owners of Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge, the Jawoyn people, with a tailor-made cultural experience. You may choose to upgrade your excursion with a scenic helicopter flight providing magnificent views over Kakadu and Nitmiluk National Parks (own expense). Dinner will be served on board in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant.

Day 5: On board The Ghan
Wake up to the wonders of the Red Centre. Breakfast is served in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant prior to arrival in Alice Springs. Embark on one of the off-train excursions to explore this outback town. You may choose to upgrade your excursion with a scenic helicopter flight over the spectacular MacDonnell Ranges or Uluru and Kata Tjuta (own expense). Dine in Alice Springs this evening, beneath a canopy of stars at an authentic Outback Bush Barbecue.

Day 6: On board The Ghan
After breakfast, arrive in Manguri and disembark for a tour to Coober Pedy, the sun-scorched opal mining capital of the world, where more than half the residents live underground. Venture into the town’s underground tunnels and caves and enjoy a gourmet lunch beneath the Earth’s surface. Return to The Ghan with time to relax before dining in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant this evening.

Day 7: Arrive Adelaide
See the dramatic change in the landscape this morning as the rich ochre tones of the outback change to the beautiful green fields and pastoral lands of South Australia. Breakfast is served in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant prior to arriving in Adelaide. On arrival, make your way to Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide, where you will spend the next three nights. Perhaps spend your first night wandering through Rundle Mall, Adelaide’s outdoor shopping street or head to the Botanic Garden, a green heaven home to tropical sanctuaries, lush lawns, and stunning architecture.

Days 8-9: Adelaide
Enjoy free time to explore this city bursting with culture, festivals, and entertainment. If you would like to have a beach day, you are in the perfect place as Adelaide has so many beautiful beaches close to the city centre. Just a 20-minute tram ride from Adelaide is Glenelg Beach, where you can walk along the sand and grab a bite to eat from one of the many restaurants dotted along Jerry Road. Or perhaps head to Henley Beach to soak up some sun and spend time browsing the quirky shops.

Day 10: Depart Adelaide
Your Australian adventure ends today as you take a private transfer to Adelaide Airport to begin your journey home.
